Coach Hire in Orpington

23rd January 2022

We've been providing coach hire across Kent and London since 1975 using our fleet of over 100 vehicles, so we know Orpington like the back of our hand. Our drivers are trained to know the area and are happy to recommend stops and places to visit, so you know that you're always going to be in safe hands when travelling to and from Orpington.

Things To Do In Orpington

Based in the London Borough of Bromley, Orpington is a small town favoured by those commuting into the city, with easy access to the M25 and other smaller but still convenient routes.

Crofton Roman Villa is the only Roman Villa that's open to the public in Greater London. Once the centre of a large farming estate, you'll find the villa situated in the middle of Orpington. Inhabited from 140 - 400 AD, you'll now be able to view the remains of ten of the original rooms, including tiled, tessellated floors and the under-floor heating system, known as a hypocaust. As well as this, you'll be able to touch a selection of Roman finds from the excavation.

If you're looking for a bit more of an activity-based day out, you'll be best to head over to Goddington Park. Spaced over 64 hectares, you'll find a children's play area, outdoor bowling arena, football pitch, cricket pitch, rugby pitch, and tennis courts, so there's something for everyone!

Whilst You're There

As mentioned, Orpington is part of the London Borough of Bromley, so you won't be short of things to do!

Just up the road in Chislehurst, you'll find Scadbury Manor, which is currently a live excavation site. Tasked to uncover more about the property, they've since discovered a large moat and a chapel on the site.

Also in Chislehurst, you'll find the Chislehurst Caves. These man-made tunnels are rich in history and carved out over hundreds of years. Initially made to mine chalk used in brick making, and since then, they were used as almost an underground town as an air-raid shelter during the Blitz, protecting over 15,000 people every night. Now, they're open to the public to explore and cover over 6 hectares and are 30 metres underground. Definitely worth a visit!

If you're on your way back into Kent and fancy stretching your legs to break up the journey, why not stop off at High Elms Country Park in Farnborough. Based on a plot over 250 acres, including a 150-acre golf course, the park has beautiful woodlands, a nature centre, ice well, formal gardens, wildflower meadows, and chalk meadows and woodland that support rare wildlife species. The park is noted as SSSI, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Local Nature Reserve.

Why Coach Hire?

As we know, overall coach hire is a much more comfortable experience, especially when travelling with Centaur where our passenger's comfort is a priority. Still, on top of that, it's a lot more environmentally friendly than travelling by car or even by train. Overall, coaches emit 4kg less carbon than trains, enough to make 75 cups of coffee.

Bromley, as a borough, is trying to reduce their carbon emissions through the Healthy Streets Scheme, including the introduction of more bike and bus lanes, adding more public transport links and reducing the amount of congestion through car traffic. By utilising coach travel, you'll be able to make use of bus lanes for a much smoother commute that takes less time overall, as well as helping to reduce carbon emissions within the area.

Why Choose Centaur Coach Hire?

With over 45 years of experience in the industry, we know what it means to go that extra mile for our passengers' by offering recommended stops wherever you may please.
